Communicating thematic data quality with web map services

ISPRS International Journal of Geo-Information, Vol. 4, No. 4. (06 October 2015), pp. 1965-1981,

Geospatial information of many kinds, from topographic maps to scientific data, is increasingly being made available through web mapping services. These allow georeferenced map images to be served from data stores and displayed in websites and geographic information systems, where they can be integrated with other geographic information. The Open Geospatial Consortium’s Web Map Service (WMS) standard has been widely adopted in diverse communities for sharing data in this way. However, current services typically provide little or no information about the ...

OpenGIS Web Map Service version 1.3.0

No. OGC 06-042. (2006)

Introduction. A Web Map Service (WMS) produces maps of spatially referenced data dynamically from geographic information. This International Standard defines a “map” to be a portrayal of geographic information as a digital image file suitable for display on a computer screen. A map is not the data itself. WMS-produced maps are generally rendered in a pictorial format such as PNG, GIF or JPEG, or occasionally as vector-based graphical elements in Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) or Web Computer Graphics Metafile (WebCGM) formats. This International Standard defines three operations: ...

A Map-based Web Server for the Collection and Distribution of Environmental Data

In Bridging the gap: ISPRS WG VI/3 and IV/3 Workshop, Ljubljana, February 2-5, 2000 : Collection of Abstracts (2000)

Environmental data constitute a very wide and poorly structured knowledge domain. The only characteristic that they share is to be associated to a certain geographical object, either a point, or a line, or a polygon. These geographical objects have in turn known relationships among them (e.g. inclusion, closeness). A map can thus constitute a unique way for structuring such a wide domain, thus allowing an ordered data storage and retrieval. A web server for collecting and distributing environmental data has been ...

Reporting on European forest fragmentation: standardized indices and web map services

IEEE Earthzine, Vol. 5, No. 2. (2012), 384031

This paper responds to the need for improved reporting and methodology reproducibility on forest fragmentation as underlined in the biodiversity policy context. The fragmentation of a focal ecosystem is conceptualized from a landscape pattern characterization based on three publicly available landscape models (Morphological Spatial Pattern application of the GUIDOS free download software, Landscape Mosaic Pattern, Conefor Sensinode free open source software) that were partly combined. A set of indices were derived and organized into five main families: two indices on general landscape ...

Meta-information Database (INRMM-MiD).
This database integrates a dedicated meta-information database in CiteULike (the CiteULike INRMM Group) with the meta-information available in Google Scholar, CrossRef and DataCite. The Altmetric database with Article-Level Metrics is also harvested. Part of the provided semantic content (machine-readable) is made even human-readable thanks to the DCMI Dublin Core viewer. Digital preservation of the meta-information indexed within the INRMM-MiD publication records is implemented thanks to the Internet Archive.

INRMM-MiD was experimentally established by the Maieutike Research Initiative in 2008 and then improved with the help of several volunteers (with a major technical upgrade in 2011). This new integrated interface is operational since 2014.
