Abstract

List of indexed keywords within the transdisciplinary set of domains which relate to the Integrated Natural Resources Modelling and Management (INRMM). In particular, the list of keywords maps the semantic tags in the INRMM Meta-information Database (INRMM-MiD). Anthropogenic disturbance and tree diversity in Montane Rain Forests in Chiapas, Mexico

Forest Ecology and Management, Vol. 154, No. 1-2. (15 November 2001), pp. 311-326, https://doi.org/10.1016/s0378-1127(00)00639-3

Abstract

We studied the influence of anthropogenic disturbance on forest structure and composition in the highly populated Montane Rain Forests of northern Chiapas, Mexico. We evaluated species richness, basal area and stem density on 81 circular plots (0.1 ha each) along a categorical disturbance gradient due to forest extraction, livestock grazing, and fires. A total of 116 tree species (>5 cm DBH) were recorded in three major forest types recognized by TWINSPAN. The three forest types were: Quercus–Podocarpus Forest (QPF), Pinus–Quercus–Liquidambar Forest (PQLF), and ...

Significant and persistent impact of timber harvesting on soil microbial communities in Northern coniferous forests

The ISME Journal, Vol. 6, No. 12. (02 August 2012), pp. 2199-2218, https://doi.org/10.1038/ismej.2012.84

Abstract

Forest ecosystems have integral roles in climate stability, biodiversity and economic development. Soil stewardship is essential for sustainable forest management. Organic matter (OM) removal and soil compaction are key disturbances associated with forest harvesting, but their impacts on forest ecosystems are not well understood. Because microbiological processes regulate soil ecology and biogeochemistry, microbial community structure might serve as indicator of forest ecosystem status, revealing changes in nutrient and energy flow patterns before they have irreversible effects on long-term soil productivity. We ...

MOBSTRAT – Timber MOBilisation STRATegies for Swiss forests A participatory and multi-criteria decision-making process to promote timber harvesting in the Ticino Canton

In Atti del IX Congresso Nazionale SISEF "Multifunzionalità degli ecosistemi forestali montani: sfide e opportunità per la ricerca e lo sviluppo" (2013)

Abstract

Due to global climate change and future energy challenges (peak oil and regional independence on energy supply), local and national policies worldwide promote an increase in the use of timber both in the building sector and for energy production purposes [1, 2, 3]. The MOBSTRAT project aims at understanding whether mobilising more timber is possible and which consequences it would bring. The project is based on a simulation of forest management scenarios applied to three case studies and stakeholder involvement using ...

Environmentally sensitive plot-scale timber harvesting: impacts on suspended sediment, bedload and bank erosion dynamics

Journal of Environmental Management, Vol. 63, No. 1. (September 2001), pp. 3-25, https://doi.org/10.1006/jema.2001.0459

Abstract

The impact on sediment pollution of environmentally sensitive harvesting of a 15 ha plot (20% of the catchment area) of mature coniferous plantation forest in the 0·89 km2Afon Tanllwyth catchment, Plynlimon, was investigated for 12 months before harvesting began and a further 18 months after. The results revealed: [::(a)] a steepening of the suspended sediment concentration vs. discharge rating curve resulting in a 39% increase in suspended sediment yield (as compared to the adjacent forested Hafren catchment) during the year in which the ...

Meta-information Database (INRMM-MiD).
This database integrates a dedicated meta-information database in CiteULike (the CiteULike INRMM Group) with the meta-information available in Google Scholar, CrossRef and DataCite. The Altmetric database with Article-Level Metrics is also harvested. Part of the provided semantic content (machine-readable) is made even human-readable thanks to the DCMI Dublin Core viewer. Digital preservation of the meta-information indexed within the INRMM-MiD publication records is implemented thanks to the Internet Archive.
The library of INRMM related pubblications may be quickly accessed with the following links.
