European Forest Types: toward an automated classification

Annals of Forest Science, Vol. 75, No. 1. (2018), pp. 1-14, https://doi.org/10.1007/s13595-017-0674-6

Abstract

[Key message] The outcome of the present study leads to the application of a spatially explicit rule-based expert system (RBES) algorithm aimed at automatically classifying forest areas according to the European Forest Types (EFT) system of nomenclature at pan-European scale level. With the RBES, the EFT system of nomenclature can be now easily implemented for objective, replicable, and automatic classification of field plots for forest inventories or spatial units (pixels or polygons) for thematic mapping. [Context] Forest Types classification systems are aimed at stratifying ...

Abstract

Since 2003 the MCPFE-Forest Europe process has adopted a set of Pan-European Indicators that has become a policy instrument to monitor, evaluate and report progress towards sustainable forest management (SFM). Two new experimental tools have been introduced in the framework of the «State of Forests and Sustainable Forest Management in Europe 2011»: (i) pilot reporting by 14 classes of European Forest Types (EFTs) for a selection of quantitative SFM indicators; (ii) key parameters for monitoring progress for all quantitative indicators. The main ...

Holm oak and holm oak forests: an introduction

In Ecology of Mediterranean Evergreen Oak Forests, Vol. 137 (1999), pp. 3-14, https://doi.org/10.1007/978-3-642-58618-7_1

Abstract

Why should we study the Mediterranean evergreen forests of holm oak (Quercus ilex L.)? Besides the pursuit of knowledge, two major reasons can be put forward. First, holm oak forests are a dominant type of vegetation in a transition zone between temperate forests, mostly dominated by deciduous trees and the scrublands (maquis, chaparral, phrygana, etc.) that herald the tropical regions. In this transition zone, plants have had to cope with a selective pressure resulting from a double stress - winter cold ...

The Querco-Fagetea class in Sicily: an example of boreal-temperate vegetation in the central Mediterranean area

Annali di Botanica, Vol. 2 (2012), pp. 19-38, https://doi.org/10.4462/annbotrm-9342

Abstract

A syntaxonomical revision of the class Querco-Fagetea sylvaticae in Sicily, based on literature data and unpublished relevés, is presented. This class groups the mesophilous woods characterized by the dominance of deciduous trees (e.g. Fagus sylvatica, Quercus sp. pl., Acer sp. pl.), and more rarely by conifers (Taxus baccata, Pinus nigra subsp. calabrica), as well as by other broadleaved trees, such as Betula aetnensis, Populus tremula, Castanea sativa. In Sicily, these woody communities are widespread in the northern and north-eastern districts of ...

Classification of Southern Italy Ostrya carpinifolia woods

Fitosociologia, Vol. 43, No. 1. (2006), pp. 3-23

Abstract

Ostrya carpinifolia woods have been extensively studied in C-Italy, while they lack specific researches and a clear phytosociological scheme in the southern part of the country. We have analyzed original and published relevés from Campania and Calabria regions, and we have compared them with bibliographic data from central Italy. The existing southern Italian Ostrya-dominated associations are revised as for their character species and bioclimatic position. Floristic analysis underlines a set of biogeographically relevant species which differentiate these communities from their C-Italian ...

A phytosociological study of the Ostrya carpinifolia Scop. woods in Sardinia (Italy)

Fitosociologia, Vol. 41, No. 1. (2004), pp. 67-75

Abstract

It is here presented a phytosociological study about the Ostrya carpinifolia Scop. woods of Sardinia, defining them in synphytosociological, synecological and synchorological terms. The analysis of this vegetation allowed the identification of a new association, named Cyclamino repandi-Ostryetum carpinifoliae. Within this association, three subassociations can be identified, the presence of which depends on the pedoclimatic conditions, the floristic composition and the synchorology. The typical subassociation, which can be found in the eastern Tacchi-region, has been named paeonietosum morisii, while the subassociation ...

Oak-hornbeam forests of the Czech Republic: geographical and ecological approaches to vegetation classification

Preslia, Vol. 76, No. 4. (2004), pp. 291-311

Abstract

Vegetation classification should reflect the major environmental and phytogeographical gradients that influence species composition. However, the importance of different gradients depends on the geographical scale of particular studies. Locally defined vegetation units usually reflect local gradients, such as disturbance and soil properties, while regionally defined units reflect macroclimatic patterns and different evolutionary and migration histories of large regions. The classification of Central European oak-hornbeam forests (Carpinion alliance) is an example of a widely accepted, broad- scale classification with geographically delimited associations. ...

Ecological and phytogeographical differentiation of oak-hornbeam forests in southeastern Europe

Plant Biosystems - An International Journal Dealing with all Aspects of Plant Biology, Vol. 147, No. 1. (6 August 2012), pp. 84-98, https://doi.org/10.1080/11263504.2012.717550

Abstract

Abstract The aim of the study was to establish the main types of oak-hornbeam (Carpinus betulus and Quercus sp. div) forests on the Apennines, Balkan peninsula and southern Alps and their correlations with the main ecological and phytogeographical gradients in the region. Furthermore, the comparison with the major types recognized in the traditional expert-based classification was done. 1676 relevés of oak-hornbeam forests (alliances Erythronio-Carpinion, Carpinion moesiacum, Physospermo verticillati-Quercion cerris) from the area of the Apennines, Balkan peninsula and southern Alps were ...

Vegetace České republiky 4: Lesní a křovinná vegetace - Vegetation of the Czech Republic 4: Forest and scrub vegetation

(2013)
edited by Milan Chytrý

Abstract

První tři díly monografie vyšly v letech 2007 až 2011 a byly věnovány ...

Les chênaies acidophiles du Médoc

In Phytosociologie et forêsterie, Actes du colloque de Nancy 1985, Vol. 14 (1988), pp. 133-166

Abstract

Meta-information Database (INRMM-MiD).
This database integrates a dedicated meta-information database in CiteULike (the CiteULike INRMM Group) with the meta-information available in Google Scholar, CrossRef and DataCite. The Altmetric database with Article-Level Metrics is also harvested. Part of the provided semantic content (machine-readable) is made even human-readable thanks to the DCMI Dublin Core viewer. Digital preservation of the meta-information indexed within the INRMM-MiD publication records is implemented thanks to the Internet Archive.
The library of INRMM related pubblications may be quickly accessed with the following links.
