Guidance on a harmonised framework for pest risk assessment and the identification and evaluation of pest risk management options by EFSA

EFSA Journal, Vol. 8, No. 2. (1 February 2010), 1495,

The Scientific Panel on Plant Health was requested by EFSA to develop a guidance document on a harmonised framework for risk assessment of organisms harmful to plants and plant products and the identification and evaluation of risk management options. The document provides guiding principles on assessment practices and approaches when assessing risks to plant health to support the decision-making process under Council Directive 2000/29/EC. The framework aims at implementing the fundamental principles of risk assessment as laid down in Regulation (EC) ...

Assessing the potential distribution of insect pests: case studies on large pine weevil (Hylobius abietis L) and horse-chestnut leaf miner (Cameraria ohridella) under present and future climate conditions in European forests

EPPO Bulletin, Vol. 45, No. 2. (1 August 2015), pp. 273-281,

Forest insect pests represent a serious threat to European forests and their negative effects could be exacerbated by climate change. This paper illustrates how species distribution modelling integrated with host tree species distribution data can be used to assess forest vulnerability to this threat. Two case studies are used: large pine weevil (Hylobius abietis L) and horse-chestnut leaf miner (Cameraria ohridella Deschka & Dimič) both at pan-European level. The proposed approach integrates information from different sources. Occurrence data of insect pests ...

X. namanganensis attacks numerous woody species, including trees planted in city streets and parks (Celtis australis , Elaeagnus angustifolia, Platanus × hispanica, Populus alba, Populus nigra, Ulmus minor, Ulmus pumila), trees in valley woodlands (Alnus glutinosa, Populus diversifolia and other Populus spp., Salix alba and other Salix spp.), and various fruit and nut trees (Juglans regia, Malus domestica, Morus nigra, Prunus armeniaca, Prunus avium, Prunus dulcis). Various other genera are also recorded as hosts (Betula,Crataegus, … ) (Pavlovskii & Shtakelberg, 1955; ...

First report of Xylella fastidiosa in the EPPO region

[Excerpt] In mid-October 2013, the NPPO of Italy informed the EPPO Secretariat of the first detection of Xylella fastidiosa (bacterium included on the EPPO A1 List since 1981) on its territory. In Southern Italy (near Lecce, Salento peninsula, Puglia region), quick decline symptoms were observed on olive trees (Olea europea). Investigations showed that symptomatic olive trees were generally affected by a complex of pests: X. fastidiosa, several fungal species belonging to the genus Phaeoacremonium and Phaemoniella, and Zeuzera pyrina (leopard ...

EPPO activities on plant quarantine

Keywords: eppo   europe   forest-pests   quarantine

One of the aims of EPPO is to help its member countries to prevent entry or spread of dangerous pests (plant quarantine). The Organization has therefore been given the task of identifying pests which may present a risk, and of making proposals on the phytosanitary measures which can be taken. In recent years, the identification of risk has been formalized, because transparent justifications of phytosanitary measures are required and phytosanitary measures have to be commensurate with the risk. Several EPPO Standards ...

Phytophthora lateralis

EPPO Bulletin, Vol. 39, No. 1. (April 2009), pp. 43-47,

Name: Phytophthora lateralis Tucker & Milbrath Taxonomic position: Chromista, Oomycota, Oomycetes, Pythiales, Pythiaceae Common name(s) of the disease: root rot of Chamaecyparis Special notes on taxonomy or nomenclature: Phytophthora lateralis belongs to Waterhouse group V and was in Clade 8a in the phylogenetic analysis of Cooke et al. (2000). Ribosomal DNA sequencing of the internal transcribed spacer region indicated that P. lateralis is most closely related to Phytophthora ramorum (Werres et al., 2001; Martin & Tooley, 2003) EPPO code: PHYTLA Phytosanitary categorization: EPPO A1 List no. ...

Phytophthora ramorum

EPPO Bulletin, Vol. 36, No. 1. (April 2006), pp. 145-155,

This standard describes a provisional diagnostic protocol for Phytophthora ramorum. Because the methods have been developed very recently in different European laboratories, there has not been sufficient time for them to be compared and evaluated. The text accordingly proposes a selection of parallel methods. EPPO proposes to prepare a harmonized revision of this Standard as soon as possible. ...

Meta-information Database (INRMM-MiD).
This database integrates a dedicated meta-information database in CiteULike (the CiteULike INRMM Group) with the meta-information available in Google Scholar, CrossRef and DataCite. The Altmetric database with Article-Level Metrics is also harvested. Part of the provided semantic content (machine-readable) is made even human-readable thanks to the DCMI Dublin Core viewer. Digital preservation of the meta-information indexed within the INRMM-MiD publication records is implemented thanks to the Internet Archive.
The library of INRMM related pubblications may be quickly accessed with the following links.
