Distribution maps of forest tree species

In ICP Forests Projectlist (2015), 64

Abstract

[Excerpt: Project description] The European Commission, Joint Research Centre, hosts the European Forest Data Centre (EFDAC at http://efdac.jrc.ec.europa.eu ) of the Forest Information System for Europe (FISE). The EFDAC‐FISE platform is envisioned to transparently integrate information referring to forest resources in Europe, including taxa‐specific information. The exercise involves the integration of: [::1] a harmonized collection of reference maps describing the European‐wide distribution of forest tree species along with their habitat suitability (both current and under varying climate change scenarios); [::2] a detailed analysis of the implications that the uncertainties – ...

I-Ispra: framework contract for the provision of forest data and services in support to the European Forest Data Centre

Supplement to the Official Journal of the European Union (November 2008)

Abstract

[Excerpt] [...] This service aims to broaden the knowledge base of the JRC's European Forest Data Centre (EFDAC) that was established to supply European Union decision-makers with policy-relevant forest data and information as specified in COM(2006) 302. To this end the tender is targeting the support of the activities of the EFDAC through providing the European Commission with forest-related data and information from a local to European scale and related services, such as reports, studies, workshops and conferences. Assessing the potential distribution of insect pests: case studies on large pine weevil (Hylobius abietis L) and horse-chestnut leaf miner (Cameraria ohridella) under present and future climate conditions in European forests

EPPO Bulletin, Vol. 45, No. 2. (1 August 2015), pp. 273-281, https://doi.org/10.1111/epp.12208

Abstract

Forest insect pests represent a serious threat to European forests and their negative effects could be exacerbated by climate change. This paper illustrates how species distribution modelling integrated with host tree species distribution data can be used to assess forest vulnerability to this threat. Two case studies are used: large pine weevil (Hylobius abietis L) and horse-chestnut leaf miner (Cameraria ohridella Deschka & Dimič) both at pan-European level. The proposed approach integrates information from different sources. Occurrence data of insect pests ...

No. COM(2012) 60 final. (2012)

Abstract

[Excerpt] A bioeconomy strategy for Europe In order to cope with an increasing global population, rapid depletion of many resources, increasing environmental pressures and climate change, Europe needs to radically change its approach to production, consumption, processing, storage, recycling and disposal of biological resources. The Europe 2020 Strategy calls for a bioeconomy as a key element for smart and green growth in Europe. Advancements in bioeconomy research and innovation uptake will allow Europe to improve the management of its renewable biological ...

Fire news management in the context of the European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS)

In proceedings of "Quinta conferenza italiana sul software geografico e sui dati geografici liberi" (GFOSS DAY 2012) (2012), https://doi.org/10.6084/m9.figshare.101918

Abstract

[Introduction] The European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS) has been established by the Joint Research Centre (JRC) and the Directorate General for Environment (DG ENV) of the European Commission (EC) in close collaboration with the Member States and neighbor countries. EFFIS is intended as complementary system to national and regional systems in the countries, which provides harmonized information required for international collaboration on forest fire prevention and fighting and in cases of trans-boundary fire events. It provides updated information before (fire ...

Forest Policy and Economics, Vol. 29 (April 2013), pp. 19-25, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.forpol.2011.08.012

Abstract

Since the mid-20th century, countries in Europe have been organized to record information on forest fires and their effects. These initiatives were established at regional and often national level, without major interaction among countries in Europe. With the expansion of the European Union in the 1980s, when Mediterranean countries were incorporated in the EU, the issue of forest fires increased in relevance, mainly due to the damages caused by fires in the natural areas of these countries. Initial EU policies related ...

Developing a forest data portal to support multi-scale decision making

IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing, Vol. 5, No. 6. (2012), pp. 1692-1699, https://doi.org/10.1109/jstars.2012.2194136

Abstract

Forests play a pivotal role in timber production, maintenance and development of biodiversity and in carbon sequestration and storage in the context of the Kyoto Protocol. Policy makers and forest experts therefore require reliable information on forest extent, type and change for management, planning and modeling purposes. It is becoming increasingly clear that such forest information is frequently inconsistent and unharmonised between countries and continents. This paper presents a forest information portal that has been developed in line with the GEOSS ...

Meta-information Database (INRMM-MiD).
This database integrates a dedicated meta-information database in CiteULike (the CiteULike INRMM Group) with the meta-information available in Google Scholar, CrossRef and DataCite. The Altmetric database with Article-Level Metrics is also harvested. Part of the provided semantic content (machine-readable) is made even human-readable thanks to the DCMI Dublin Core viewer. Digital preservation of the meta-information indexed within the INRMM-MiD publication records is implemented thanks to the Internet Archive.
The library of INRMM related pubblications may be quickly accessed with the following links.
