A data-driven approach to assess large fire size generation in Greece

Natural Hazards, Vol. 88, No. 3. (2017), pp. 1591-1607,

Identifying factors and drivers which control large fire size generation is critical for planning fire management activities. This study attempts to determine the role of fire suppression tactics and behavior, weather, topography and landscape features on two different datasets of large fire size (500–1000 ha) and very large fire size (>1000 ha) compared to two datasets of small fire size (<50 ha) which occurred in Greece, during the period 1984–2009. In this context, we used a logistic regression (LR) analysis and ...

Conterminous U.S. and Alaska Forest Type Mapping Using Forest Inventory and Analysis Data

Photogrammetric Engineering & Remote Sensing (November 2008), pp. 1379-1388,

Classification-trees were used to model forest type groups and forest types for the conterminous United States and Alaska. The predictor data were a geospatial data set with a spatial resolution of 250 m developed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service (USFS). The response data were plot data from the USFS Forest Inventory and Analysis program. Overall accuracies for the conterminous U.S. for the forest type group and forest type were 69 percent (Kappa = 0.66) and 50 percent (Kappa ...

Validation of species–climate impact models under climate change

Global Change Biology, Vol. 11, No. 9. (1 September 2005), pp. 1504-1513,

Increasing concern over the implications of climate change for biodiversity has led to the use of species–climate envelope models to project species extinction risk under climate-change scenarios. However, recent studies have demonstrated significant variability in model predictions and there remains a pressing need to validate models and to reduce uncertainties. Model validation is problematic as predictions are made for events that have not yet occurred. Resubstituition and data partitioning of present-day data sets are, therefore, commonly used to test the predictive ...

Categorizing Ideas about Trees: A Tree of Trees

PLoS ONE, Vol. 8, No. 8. (7 August 2013), pp. e68814-e68814,

The aim of this study is to explore whether matrices and MP trees used to produce systematic categories of organisms could be useful to produce categories of ideas in history of science. We study the history of the use of trees in systematics to represent the diversity of life from 1766 to 1991. We apply to those ideas a method inspired from coding homologous parts of organisms. We discretize conceptual parts of ideas, writings and drawings about trees contained in 41 ...

Spatial prediction models for landslide hazards: review, comparison and evaluation

Natural Hazards and Earth System Science, Vol. 5, No. 6. (7 November 2005), pp. 853-862,

The predictive power of logistic regression, support vector machines and bootstrap-aggregated classification trees (bagging, double-bagging) is compared using misclassification error rates on independent test data sets. Based on a resampling approach that takes into account spatial autocorrelation, error rates for predicting "present" and "future" landslides are estimated within and outside the training area. In a case study from the Ecuadorian Andes, logistic regression with stepwise backward variable selection yields lowest error rates and demonstrates the best generalization capabilities. The evaluation outside ...

Meta-information Database (INRMM-MiD).
This database integrates a dedicated meta-information database in CiteULike (the CiteULike INRMM Group) with the meta-information available in Google Scholar, CrossRef and DataCite. The Altmetric database with Article-Level Metrics is also harvested. Part of the provided semantic content (machine-readable) is made even human-readable thanks to the DCMI Dublin Core viewer. Digital preservation of the meta-information indexed within the INRMM-MiD publication records is implemented thanks to the Internet Archive.
The library of INRMM related pubblications may be quickly accessed with the following links.
